So it has been a week's time I believe since I posted anything new..whoops..time flies when you have
5 assignments and midterms all in the same week.
Yesterday was the kick off to Reading Week for most college and university students. For the lucky few, they get to fly off some where warm and get to drink and enjoy the sun all week long, while the rest of us catch up on sleep and work = blah.
Thus far I haven't done anything, other then play Super Nintendo that my boyfriend lent me (bad idea on his part, I been playing Donkey Kong for 8+ hours now)
I am only good at the old video games. Today's games with all their 3D effects and "life like" simulation make it too hard for me to understand what it is I need to do.
Do I have any real plans? Hmm not really. I just plan to study and make notes (sounds like a PARTY! ,eh) and look for jobs online, which I did a bit of today, and found it's not all that easy to find a job. I'll need to take some time to write out a new cover letter and update my resume once again. I tend to want things to happen fairly quickly, so this whole waiting process and searching is not ideal for me. I wish that these job posting sites were designed a bit better. Typing in "Toronto" doesn't mean I am able to work in "London".
However I did manage to get a very cool volunteer opportunity with
Good News Toronto : a non profit paper simply reporting on Good News. It is pretty interesting and really does try to focus on the great bits of the city and highlight local heroes. My role is an event planner for this new event that the editor wants to throw;
a community dinner. The idea is to promote community closeness and let people within Toronto's neighborhoods to come together and have a meal. It is funny how we are around people all the time in the city, but rarely do two people strike up a conversation. Even living in condos, neighbors rarely see each other let alone ask for a cup of sugar or butter. Living in a big city provide each of us a huge network, but no one really see it that way or takes advantage of it. This dinner is going to be a lot of hard work, as the editor hasn't ever done anything like this before. First thing that needs to be done this week is finding a venue to host this and starting up a Twitter account to twit the progress and involve the online community to help out and suggest ideas, as well as provide feedback.
